Summer Staff Positions

Counselors

Counselor

Spending a summer serving the Lord as a camp counselor can be one of the most spiritually rewarding and educational experiences of your life; it could also be one of the most challenging. Counselors are with their campers all day and all night. They are surrogate parents for five days, not to one camper, but as many as ten, and sometimes those campers can be a handful. It is the intimacy of sharing a cabin, eating, playing, singing, and living together that makes it possible to bridge the gap from your world to theirs, so that you can impact their lives.

At New Life Island our counselors are very important people. We have special speakers each week at camp and our campers sit under some great teaching, but it is the counselor who builds the one on one relationship which so often leads to a camper’s decision. To have a quality camping program we need a quality counseling staff. That is why we search and pray for those special people that God brings to us each summer.

Our camp week starts Sunday afternoon with a staff meeting and ends Friday evening with a staff debriefing time, after our campers head for home. In between are five exciting days of games, swimming, campfires, Bible studies and many other activities that we want everyone to enjoy, because every camper wants a counselor who will enjoy camp right along with him.

Our staff training will begin on Monday, June 15 and go until Friday, June 26. During these two weeks we will have sessions covering everything from belaying to praying. We will teach you everything you need to know to be a successful camp counselor. The season ends for our counselors on Saturday, August 1, after seven terrific weeks of serving the Lord together and seeing Him work in our lives and in the lives of our campers.

Financially, we can offer our counselors a starting rate of about $2,500.00 for the summer. The camp will cover the cost of First-Aid and CPR training and each staffer receives two staff shirts and some other goodies.

If you are chosen to become a camp counselor at New Life Island, you can be sure that you will be stretched, tested, tired out, pushed, and encouraged in an experience that will change your life forever. That is why we say, “No one leaves the same”.

Spending a summer serving the Lord on our camp staff can be one of the most rewarding and educational experiences of your life. While the counselors spend the most time with and have the greatest impact on campers, it is the support staff that makes it all possible. Without the support staff taking care of everything from maintenance to crafts, washing dishes to cleaning restrooms, the camp could not operate. Having a good support staff is crucial to the success of our camp season. That is why we search and pray for the people that God would have for us each summer.

Our staff training will begin on Monday, June 15 and go until Friday, June 26. During these two weeks, we will have sessions covering everything from rest rooms to push brooms. We will teach you everything you need to know to be a successful member of our camp staff. The official camp season ends on Saturday, August 1, after seven terrific weeks of serving the Lord together and seeing Him work in our lives and in the lives of our campers. There will be an opportunity for some staff to stay on for a week or two as we minister to guest groups that will be renting the camp. We will need to have food service and housekeeping/maintenance staff for those weeks.

Our support staff consists of young people, at least 15 years old, who work in the kitchen, snack shop, craft shop, along with maintenance workers and lifeguards. Snack shop, craft shop and maintenance workers also clean restrooms, and lifeguards care for the pool. Our media specialist takes pictures and video and is responsible for the video we show to our campers every Friday. Everyone is expected to be willing to help out wherever needed. Salaries start at $170.00 per week, for a total of 7 weeks. Second level staff positions receive a larger salary based on their experience and training. If you are interested in serving as a lifeguard, but don’t have the training, please contact us. We might be able to help.

Our camp week starts Sunday afternoon with a staff meeting and ends Friday evening when they head for home. In between are five terrific days of working together to provide the best possible camping experience for our campers.

If you become a camp staff member you can be sure that you will be stretched, tested, tired out, pushed, and encouraged in an experience that might just change your life forever. That is why at New Life Island we say,

“No one leaves the same.”

Volunteers

Volunteer

Come as you are, leave different!

We have created the Summer Volunteer Program for young people who would like to serve the Lord at camp, but are unable to commit for the whole summer. It is our hope that we will be able to provide the camp staff experience and its many benefits in a smaller way to more quality young people.

Our Summer Volunteers are young people, at least 14 years old, who work alongside our full-time summer support staffers. Snackshop, craftshop, and maintenance workers will help clean restrooms. Everyone is expected to be willing to help out wherever needed. This is an un-paid position, but the camp will provide lodging, meals, and a staff shirt.

Serving the Lord as a camp staffer can be one of the most rewarding and educational experiences of your life. While the counselors spend the most time with and have the greatest impact on campers, it is the support staff and volunteers that make it all possible. Without faithful servants taking care of everything from maintenance to crafts, washing dishes to cleaning restrooms, the camp could not operate.

Our camp week starts Sunday afternoon with a staff meeting and ends Friday evening when they head for home. In between are five terrific days of working together to provide the best possible camping experience for our campers.

If you become part of our Summer Volunteer Team, you can be sure that you will be stretched, tested, tired out, pushed, and encouraged in an experience that might just change your life forever. That is why at New Life Island we say, “No one leaves the same.”
